Another Boring Day in Sunnydale

Well, yes, I jinxed us. On Thursday afternoon Alice had a 104 degree fever, prompting her Dada to take a sick day with her on Friday while I went to work and fretted. Then on Sunday, she broke out in a rash all over her torso (today it is crawling up her neck).

The pediatrician keeps telling us we don't need to bring her in again because Friday's tests were negative (strep etc . . .).

The pediatrician keeps saying "Oh, the rash means the virus is over. Once the fever goes down, then the rash starts, and that means she is almost better."

She says this as if we should know this, as if ALL virus induced fevers end in a rash. Not in any baby book I am reading.

News to me. And my mom, the woman with 30 years of kindergarten experience.

The pediatrician also kept asking me if it looked 'lacey.' ???

As long as Alice is eating and drinking fluid (and she is) we are good to go. Of course, the pediatrician on call on Sunday, once she figured out Alice was adopted from Guatemala, wanted us to take her to the Children's Hospital for a malaria test. Strike me dead, but we didn't do it.

She may be sick, but she continues to be reassuringly cute:

I am betting she will walk by Thanksgiving. Notice the feet.

This is a serious question: Can you guess which parent dressed Alice?

Getting better is tough work.

This toy has an incredibly annoying soundtrack . . . which Alice loves bopping along to. And the point of the toy was to help encourage her to strengthen her legs, so, success. Why oh why oh why hasn't a toy manufacturer added a feature where parents can program them with selections from their ipod or zune or music storage device of their choice??? Although, as Tom pointed out, Alice does make cool sound collages by maniacally opening and shutting and pushing random buttons in a furious, inspired sequence.

Here she is jamming with Dada (who figured out how to play Nirvana's 'Come as You Are' on the yellow toy dog xylophone/piano). What a rock star!

Jam session is over. No autographs.

It was super cold the past 2 days. Cold enough for Alice to not immediately pull off her hat!

Another meal success for Mama: cheesey bread pudding. As Tom says, who doesn't like milk fat and starch? I made it with Challah and a ton of eggs and cheddar cheese and Alice loved it. Tom kept calling it lost bread, which in his family is the name for french toast.

Peek a boo: always a crowd pleaser!

Tired, yes. And oh so happy.

Cheryl - sorry to hear Alice has been so sick. But she sure is cute! I hope she is feeling better soon, and that you and Tom are coping well.

Malaria, puh-leez! As if she's been crawling around El Peten with machete in her wee little mouth!

And that's the first I've ever heard of this fever/rash thing. Whatever!

Tell that doctor I said he/she is an idiot!

Y'all are a good mama and papa, even if you do dress that kid funny sometimes. :)

Love yer gutz,
Jennifer
